The summer of 2008
During the summer members sent in photos of summer scenes - they did manage to find some days when it didn't rain!

At the AGM on 16 June 2008 Phil Peddy was voted in as the Club's first President, and Jim Henson as the first Vice President. Both of them have been members and part of the committee since the Club's first meeting in 1995. Jim is continuing on the Committee, but Phil is standing down after 14 years as Chairman.

For more information on Bentley Station Meadow and butterflies in general go to the Hampshire and Isle of Wight Butterfly Conservation website.

Bentley Station Meadow
Members enjoyed a day out at the nature reserve in May, when the warden told us about English butterflies and the work carried out by the Hampshire Butterfly Conservation. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and we were encouraged to visit the site later in the season when more butterflies would be about.

Have you been back to the meadow? I went on 1 July and found plenty of butterflies. However they did not sit around waiting to be photographed!

A Summer Challenge
2007
Why not send in your insect photographs over the summer period?

Any photographs received will be displayed on the website over the next few months.  You never know, we may end up with a splendid collection of butterflies, moths, beetles and other creepy-crawlies.

Our annual social evening
was held on 7 January 2008 in the church hall. It was an excellent evening, with the usual good food and drink. There were table quizzes and spot the difference challenges round the walls to keep us entertained, as well as a huge raffle which was drawn at the end of the evening. I think most people won a prize.

Hollycombe Steam in the Country
The club visited the Hollycombe Steam museum near Liphook on Saturday evening 15 September. Night photography lit by fairground lights is a new challenge for many members, and although only 7 of us turned up, it proved an interesting and socoable evening.

Hidden Gardens of Grayshott  9 - 10 June 2007
Over the weekend 24 gardens were open for viewing and about 700 visitors enjoyed looking at them in the hot June weather. In St Luke's church a Floral Carpet was created by Grayshott Flower Club, inspired by Rudyard Kipling's poem "The Glory of the Garden". There was also a floral tribute to Grayshott Fire Service on their centenary.
Ludshott Photographic Club had an exhibition of Flower and Garden images in St Luke's church rooms over the two days.

The Club was treated to a presentation by the four Venture Groups on Monday evening. Each group made use of the club's projector to showcase their images, and they also displayed prints on our newly acquired stands. The work done by the Club's Venture Groups over the last year can be viewed on the Venture Groups page.

Awards for All
The Club has been given a Lottery grant through the Awards for All scheme. The money received is to pay for a system to calibrate monitors and printers. This will enable members to produce better prints with correct colour calibration.

The Hawk Conservancy
Thirteen members of the club travelled to Andover on Friday night 29 September for an evening of "Owls by torchlight". We joined other enthusiasts for a sausage and mash meal at 7:30, followed by a tour of owls in their enclosures. The highlight of the evening was a demonstration of owls flying in the open-air arena, which was lit as if it were twilight, giving it an atmospheric feel. We got the chance to hold some of the owls and to photograph them in the study centre at the end of the evening. The staff went out of their way to show us around and answer our questions, making it a most enjoyable evening. The Hawk Conservancy's website can be found at http://www.hawk-conservancy.org/

Club outing
On Tuesday 13 June, 21 members spent the day at the Hawk Conservancy at Andover. Thousands of photographs of birds were taken, and no doubt many  were subsequently deleted! Flying birds are not easy subjects.

However, the conservancy staff were friendly and helpful, bringing reasonably sedentary birds into the meadow for us to photograph during the morning. The day started very hot and sunny, but rain clouds came over at lunchtime, so not everyone stayed for the afternoon displays, the highlight of which was a magnificent condor.

At 4:30 we watched wild birds feeding in the flower meadow - red kites, kestrels and about a dozen herons.

The Chairman had a go at flying a falcon,
but I don't think he's got his learners licence yet!
